“INDEPENDENT FILM WILL FIND ITS WAY SOMEDAY IN THE MODEL OF THE COTTAGE INDUSTRY”

CINEMAKER
In 2010 consisting of five members I formed a film band CINEMAKER, everyone was a novice there in film-arena and definitely had no resource for making films. But I tried to motivate them to make films with whatever we had available and to learn through mistakes. Though our early projects were not technically very sound but the spirit behind was very prominent. In course of the time it became an independent film production company and produced three short films JUNCTION (জংশন), THE JOURNEY (যাত্রা), A FAMILY (পুতুল) and a documentary IMAGE OF A CITY, all these got a positive appreciation in film festivals from home and abroad. Then I produced three feature films SUMMER HOLIDAY (আম–কাঁঠালের ছুটি), THE INSTINCT (আদিম), and MASTUL (মাস্তুল) almost in parallel from CINEMAKER and all these three are now ready for the theatrical release. Now I’m in the preproduction stage for my next project DEEP INSIDE THE SOUL (ঘোর). I also worked as the producer and mentor in A FAMILY and THE INSTINCT and another upcoming project FIREFLIES (জোনাকপোকা).
CINESCOPE
All the cinema theatres in Bangladesh are getting closed in a procession for the last few years and I felt frustrated about the destiny of films though there are many online platforms but to me, the priority for film screening should be the theatres and I am obsessed about a group of an audience watching films together in a dark theatre. From this obsession, I invested in setting up a modern cinema theatre CINESCOPE, NARAYANGANJ of only 35 seats with a partnership between CINEMAKER and NARAYANGANJ CITY CORPORATION in 2019. The public took it very positively and the policymakers including the honorable minister of cultural affairs of the Bangladesh Government acknowledged and appreciated this venture. Now I like to spread this type of theatre all around the country and some entrepreneurs are seeking its franchisee.
CINEPEETH
One of my dream ventures is an interactive film school CINEPEETH based on knowledge sharing, opposite to the orthodox teacher-student manner. Each and everyone here will share their personal experience and knowledge about film and will enrich each other. Filmmakers around the globe will participate with their contribution to this platform. It is in its very initial stage and available only on social media but I’m stepping towards its physical entity.
CINELOOP
Right now I’m working with a new startup CINELOOP on developing a sustainable distribution system for independent films and that will be able to earn the optimum amount of revenue for independent films.
